Level 2

Grades 7, 8 and 9

A

Unit A · Sessions 1 to 6

From blocks to text

Six sessions to move from dragging to typing, with the blocks you know beside you the whole way. You start by rewriting something you have already built, and finish by opening an empty file.

B

Unit B · Sessions 7 to 12

Things that move, things that show

Six sessions, six parts out of your box. A motor that goes to an angle you name. A screen with your words on it. A sensor that knows the temperature, and another that knows how far away you are. A switch big enough to turn on a lamp. Then all of it at once, in a machine that watches the room.

P1

Project 1 · Sessions 13 to 16

Your first real device

Four sessions. One sensor, one thing that happens, and a screen that says what is going on. Everything you need you have already used, so nothing here is new except that this time you choose what it is for.

C

Unit C · Sessions 17 to 21

Telling a machine what you want

So far your machines have decided everything for themselves. Now you get a say. Five sessions on the ways a person tells a machine what to do — a stick, a keypad, a remote control — and one motor that goes exactly as far as you say.

D

Unit D · Sessions 22 to 24

AI and chatbots

Three sessions on the thing you will use most and understand least. You have just spent five sessions building a rule out of data by hand — which puts you in an unusually good position to understand what a chatbot actually is.

E

Unit E · Sessions 25 to 27

Designing a part that fits

Three sessions. Your distance sensor works, but it only works if it is pointing straight ahead at a known height — and at the moment it is propped against a book. This unit replaces the book with a part you designed.

P2

Project 2 · Sessions 28 to 31

Something that senses and acts

Four sessions, and this time you choose the problem as well as the solution. Every part you need is one you have used. The only new thing is that it is yours.
