Level 3

Grades 10 and 11

A

Unit A · Sessions 1 to 6

On the network

Six sessions to get a number out of a board and onto a screen that is not plugged into it. You end with a page you designed yourself, a button that reaches across the room, and a device anybody on the WiFi can open.

B

Unit B · Sessions 7 to 12

What your device can sense

Six sessions, six components, one page. You already have a board that serves a web page. Now you fill that page with real things — the temperature, the light, the sound in the room — and then you put controls on it, so the page does not only tell you things, it does things.

P1

Project 1 · Sessions 13 to 16

A page somebody actually uses

Four sessions. One sensor, on the network, with a page that answers a real question for a real person. Smaller than the May project and with the same discipline: it has to work for somebody who did not build it.

C

Unit C · Sessions 17 to 21

A page somebody else can use

Your device works. Now it has to be usable by a person who did not build it, has never seen it, and is holding a phone at arm's length. Five sessions on the difference between something that functions and something somebody can actually use.

D

Unit D · Sessions 22 to 24

AI and chatbots

Three sessions on the tool you will use for the rest of your education and most of your working life. What it is underneath, how to get real work out of it, and how to hold it to the same evidence standard you have spent a year holding your own devices to.

E

Unit E · Sessions 25 to 27

Designing for the real world

Three sessions. Your device is going outside, on a roof or in a corridor, for a fortnight. It needs a box — one that keeps water out, lets a cable in, mounts to something, and can be opened again when it fails.

P2

Project 2 · Sessions 28 to 31

Something that stays

Four sessions. One device, in one real place, doing one real job for a week without you touching it. In January you built a page somebody could read; this one has to survive being left alone.
