What we are making: the finished page, and then the device installed in
its real place and left there.
First half: the page
Start from a fresh copy of the staple. Not from nothing, and not from March's sketch.
One number, big. Its units. Its age. In that order of size.
The colour change, using the threshold you measured in session 29.
The self-refresh, at an interval you can justify.
Controls only if your named person actually needs them — and most do not.
Then the silent test. Hand it to somebody from another team, say nothing, and afterwards ask three questions: what does it measure, is that good or bad right now, and how old is that reading?
Any of the three they get wrong is yours to fix before you install it.
Second half: install it
Mount it properly. Tape the cable so nobody trips and nothing can be pulled out.
Label it: what it is, whose it is, and the address to reach it.
Photograph the installation. You will want this at the exhibition.
Write down the time you left it and the reading at that moment.
Then leave it alone. No visits and no changes until session 31.
💡 Tip
A device that died after two days, explained honestly, scores better than one that ran all week in a cupboard where nothing happens. The point of leaving it is to find out what the real world does to it, and the real world is the interesting part.
What to record when you come back
Was it still running? If not, how long did it last?
Highest and lowest readings over the week.
Did anybody interfere with it?
Did anything happen that you did not expect?
Before you leave
The page, tested silently and fixed.
The device installed, labelled and photographed.
The starting time and reading, written down.
The freeze: no code changes from now.

Photograph your installation from the angle a passer-by sees. Is it obvious what it is?
